Capital Fringe

The Capital Fringe Festival is primarily a self-producing performing arts festival where established and emerging artists can present their work. The Fringe Festival takes place in July in SW DC for over 30,000 patrons each year. The Fringe Festival is DC’s largest and most anticipated performing arts festival. It is just the place for you to showcase your most daring, raw and authentic live performance work.

 Festival Overview

Type of Festival

  • Provide guidance and support throughout the process
  • Provide you with a venue and a venue manager
  • Schedule one technical rehearsal and an average of five performances
  • Provide a press list for your own use to send your press release
  • Provide full box office services, including phone, online and door sales
  • Producing a printed Festival Guide, distributing it with the Washington Post weekend section 
  • List your production page on capitalfringe.org
  • Produce the Festival Preview, and other happenings, to draw audiences to the Fringe Festival
  • Create opportunities for artists to promote their shows and arrange discounted advertising deals

Applications and rfps are released in October with deadlines in early january.

Application Fee: $35-$50
Production Fee : $585
​Box Office % to Artist: 60-70%
Other fees: InSurance fee $280 (only needs to be paid if comPANY does not have Liability insurance).

Tech Information

Capital Fringe coordinates a diverse group of venues that will accommodate a multitude of genre-defying productions. From full-time theatres to Fringe-designed spaces, our production staff employ a system of management that is both focused and flexible to lay the groundwork for the success of your show. VENUES Are equipped with, but not limited to, the following: a basic repertory light plot, a basic sound system, audience seating, projectors, pianos and microphones. 

Performance Schedule

Capital Fringe does not have set rules in regards to production length. However, we strongly encourage productions of 75 minutes or less. Productions that are 75 minutes or shorter typically sell better that those over 100 minutes. Additionally, productions over 100 minutes may receive fewer performances depending upon venue availability. Each production receives  5-7 individual performances over the course of the festival.
